ART BACKGROUND AND PHILOSOPHY: My serious interest
in art began in junior high school when my father, a sign painter, began
teaching me brush lettering. That love of letter forms is evident
in much of my present work in monotype. I became acquainted with various
printmaking techniques in college and became intrigued with the medium.
In 1992 I spent a month studying monotype at the Graphics Workshop
in Santa Fe. Much of my present work includes drawings that are added
to the monotype through a process called Chine collé. It is
a French term for a method of adhering thin pieces of paper to a larger
print paper with glue, at the same time that the inked image is printed.
The drawings are placed glue side up on the monotype plate, the print
paper is placed on top of the plate and glue coated drawings, and
the paper and plate are run through the press. The drawings become
a permanent part of the print. Watercolor is another of my passions.
My love of flowers blooms in the colorful florals that I enjoy painting.
The art that I produce shows my fascination with the beauty in the
world of nature and has been influenced by the writings of American
artist Robert Henri.
